When Should I Begin The College Soccer Recruiting Process?

The college soccer recruiting process can begin as early as your Freshman year of high school. The moment that you walk into the classroom on that first day of school, your recruiting process is underway as academics play such a fundamental part in whether you will be successful. When it comes to defining an exact age, there is no perfect answer; many athletes have been successful who have started contacting coaches as late as their senior year and many athletes have been successful who started contacting college coaches as a Freshman.

There are certain factors that will help you progress through the recruiting process:

  • It is imperative to maintain a high GPA right from the outset and therefore starting off strong in your Freshman year will significantly further your chances of playing college soccer.

  • You should be researching as many colleges as possible when you begin the recruitment process, making sure you have a list of at least 15 colleges that you would like to attend.

  • Being proactive is key to getting recruited, these coaches are being contacted by hundreds of potential recruits every year, how are you going to stand out?

It is important to note that throughout the recruiting process, there are certain regulations with when a college coach may respond or contact an athlete. There are no limits of when an athlete can contact a college coach.
